PATHS-UP Blog, Week 1.
I joined the Young Scholars Program last minute, and had no idea what to expect from the program. I had just finished a DST program on the other side of Rice University, where I learned the basics of R, the coding language used for analytical statistics and data. Aside from that, I was already very interested in STEM.
My first thoughts on the activities we would be looking forward to were with excitement. I have never had the opportunity to work with a PCB or learn C++ before. Mr. Franklin is very helpful in walking us through the basics, and allows us to explore and discover on our own.
Working with Dr. Young to make our own virtual PCB was very cool. The step-by-step helped me to understand what I was learning as I was building.
I am looking forward to assembling and coding more functions for our TinyScreen+ Smartwatches. So far we've put together a pulse oximeter and a pedometer to measure our heart pulse and movement activity, respectfully. I can't wait to see what else our kits include. I am especially looking forward to tinkering with the design.
